About Us

Hello and welcome to my family website TellesRoots.com!  If you are related to my branch of the Telles family out of New Mexico, and especially if your last name is Telles(z), then this website about our family and our history will be of immense use to you now and in the future. Even if you are not directly related to us through blood, the joy of marriage has brought in countless members to our family. I hope you enjoy the website. This is a “living” website, meaning that the information can change or be gone at any moment! I try to provide as much sourcing as possible but if I got something incorrect and/or it’s not sourced, please ask me!

Meanwhile, let me tell you a little bit about this site. It’s my intention for TellesRoots.com to serve several purposes.

  1. Document my own genealogy.
  2. Help my friends, relatives, and even complete strangers with their genealogy.
  3. Further interest in Hispanic genealogy in the American Southwest. Particularly New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas.
  4. To act as a collection of information pertaining to our family genealogy and history.

It took an immense amount of people to collect, store, and distribute the information I have found on my ancestors. I wish to make it easier on others when they do their family research. Mainly my own family but if I can help others I feel it’s my duty.

This website was made with a few things in mind. First and foremost I first started this website to honor my antecedents with the primary one being my grandfather Richard E. Telles, for whom I am partly named after. Family was an important matter with my grandfather. He seemed to know how everyone in the family was related and he remembered this well into his older age. He was a great man, and I miss him dearly.

I had a small interest in family history before my grandfather passed away on July 3, 2005, but it was not serious. I got some information about the names of some of my ancestors but did not get very many dates. It’s not that my grandfather didn’t know these dates, it’s just that I didn’t bother to ask. Since 2009 I have been doing this “kind of seriously”. I say it like that because I am not a professional genealogist, nor do I claim to be, but it is a regular hobby of mine. I have no idea where this desire comes from. I have read in a book I believe was Family History: 101 that the author believes we are somehow chosen to be the carriers of family legacy. I don’t know if this is true or not, but I think about it everyday that my grandfather may have chosen me to carry on his tradition of remembering our ancestors. I also hope that I can live up to the huge task.

The second reason I decided to make this website is because I know I have A LOT of family out there that I haven’t seen since I was little, don’t remember, and don’t even know that I have. I created this website to bridge those family gaps. I’m hoping that by putting some of this information out into cyberspace I will reconnect with old family members, and the ones I never knew I had.

The last is to make it easy to find the answers we seldom ask but wish we knew the answer to when we do. How are we related? Who was my mothers great-great-grandmother? There are countless others. Ease of use is a goal of the website. If you have problems, please ask for help.

Designing and maintaining a website such as this is a labor, but it’s a labor of love. I welcome input from everyone.
